Nick trained and worked with Clifford Turner (now part of Clifford Chance) before joining Stevens & Bolton LLP in 1991. He became a partner in 1992. Nick’s knowledge and expertise extends to practically all tax and trust matters, including UK and offshore trusts; tax planning for non-UK domiciliaries; employee benefit trusts; tax planning for company shareholders; International succession issues and complex wills and estates. He is listed as a leading tax and trust lawyer in the Chambers UK legal directory and by the publication ‘Legal Experts’ as an expert in private client work. Nick is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and lectures on taxation and the use of trusts. In 2005, he was invited to become an editor of a section of the Oxford Dictionary of Law, New Edition. Described in the 2014 edition of The Legal 500 as “extremely thorough”, and as a “very technically bright lawyer” in Chambers UK 2015. Most recently, in Chambers UK 2017, he is considered to have "extremely strong technical knowledge, but he can also transmit such information to clients in a straightforward way". He is also described as an "excellent lawyer and a real expert on tax law".
