Bio

Charlie Wilson is the co-managing partner of Sidley’s office in Singapore and co-leader of the M&A and Private Equity group in Asia. He has advised on investments in Southeast Asia for more than 20 years and has extensive experience in advising private equity funds and corporates on their investments and disposals across the region. Previously, Charlie was a partner in the Singapore office of a global law firm, where he served as the head of its Indonesian practice. Charlie has been ranked in the Indonesia and Singapore chapters of Chambers Global (2019 – 2021) and Chambers Asia Pacific (2014 – 2021) for Corporate/M&A (International Firms). He is also recognized as a leading Corporate M&A lawyer by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2015 – 2018) and IFLR1000 (2015 – 2020). He was named “Best Lawyer” in the Singapore chapter of The Best Lawyers (2014 – 2022) and “M&A Lawyer of the Year” at the Asian Lawyer Emerging Markets Awards (2016). In the 2021 editions of Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific, a client states that Charlie “provides excellent work in cross-border transactions and impresses with his business-oriented legal solutions.” In the 2020 edition of Chambers Asia-Pacific, a client notes that “he is able to give the client confidence and has a good client manner. He also has a common-sense approach to giving legal advice and is especially useful when the transaction is throwing up things unexpectedly along the way.” In the 2019 edition of the guide, Charlie is recognized as an experienced practitioner who is sought out for “his knowledge of Indonesia,” and is noted by a client as “someone I trust to help us accomplish our goals.” He represents private equity funds and corporates across a range of sectors and often on particularly large and complex transactions.
