Bio

Bart Biggers is co-leader of Sidley’s Aviation practice. For almost two decades, Bart has advised clients in M&A, commercial and cross-border transactions, outsourcing, workouts and restructurings, and corporate finance and corporate governance matters. Bart has earned a well-deserved reputation as a preeminent aviation lawyer and strategic partner to participants in the airline and aviation industry, due in part to his work as counsel to one of the largest U.S. commercial airlines during Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. His work on this matter included guiding the company through the assumption, rejection, or renegotiation of over 50,000 contracts and arrangements. As part of his extensive aviation law experience, Bart is particularly skilled in counseling major international and domestic airlines on a wide array of commercial transactions for virtually all functions of the airline business. This includes: fleet, supply chain, human resources, marketing and sales, hospitality, loyalty programs, operations, regional matters, fuel, technology (hardware procurement, content and software licensing, data security, and privacy), and other business-process outsourcing transactions, as well as general corporate restructuring matters. His deep knowledge of the industry allows him to offer a strategic perspective on aviation law that is invaluable to his clients. In addition to his broad aviation law capabilities, Bart has established a practice that fulfills a range of corporate and commercial transactional needs. This includes supply chain management, technology, business-process outsourcing agreements, cross-border transactions, mergers and acquisitions, workouts and corporate restructuring, corporate finance (including public and private securities and other capital markets transactions), corporate governance, and other general corporate matters. Bart has also worked closely both with business units and in-house counsel of Fortune 500 companies, acted as outside general counsel for both public and private companies, and worked with private equity and hedge funds. Bart’s international experience routinely spans the globe and includes representations in Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa.
