After training with Matthew Walsh and completing a secondment at Northern Rock and Virgin Money, we were delighted to welcome Matthew into our Corporate Team in 2012. Here he works on transactions for UK and overseas serial acquirers, owner-managers and investors, although he also enjoys getting to know his clients’ businesses by providing ongoing company law advice and corporate governance support. To date, Matthew has been involved in deals such as advising NorthEdge, a private equity firm on its investment into Ramsdens Financial Limited, the UK’s largest independent pawnbroker, the sellers on the disposal of Eldon Colliery to a Florida-headquartered fossil fuel manufacturer, Oxbow Carbon LLC; project managing and instructing foreign counsel on a cross-border acquisition for a group of Middle East-based private investors; assisting German multi-national KAEFER GmbH on the acquisition of Opus Industrial Services Limited; and acting for UK and overseas public companies including RPM International Inc. and private equity backed businesses including Kitwave Wholesale Group on acquisitions, takeovers and disposals. Being an ardent Leeds United supporter, Matthew says his footballing affiliations used to inspire looks of contempt and disdain, but these days all he gets is pity. And if he had ever harboured hopes of one day playing for his team, several recent knee operations mean his football boots have now been well and truly hung up. An occurrence which, Matthew admits, is probably no great loss for the game.
