Bio

Over the course of his career, Mr. Preiss has advised a wide range of clients in major restructuring, financing and M&A transactions. Since joining Millstein & Co. in 2012, Mr. Preiss has advised (among others): the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in evaluating restructuring alternatives for approximately $70 billion of indebtedness; Caesars Entertainment Operating Company in its chapter 11 restructuring; first lien lenders of Energy Future Holdings (formerly TXU Corp.) in connection with Energy Future Holdings’ chapter 11 restructuring; 21st Century Oncology in multiple acquisitions and out-of-court financing transactions; Affinion in its out-of-court dual tranche debt exchange offer and subsequent out-of-court debt-for-equity exchange; and certain creditors of NII Holdings (Nextel) in NII’s chapter 11 restructuring. Prior to joining Millstein & Co., Mr. Preiss was a member of the Lazard restructuring practice. During his time at Lazard his advisory clients included: Lehman Brothers in the development of its plan of reorganization and successful emergence from the largest chapter 11 filing in history; Eastman Kodak in relation to its $950 million debtor-in-possession financing and chapter 11 filing; Highland Hospitality in its out-of-court restructuring of $1.7 billion of liabilities; and secured creditor Lehman Ali in its stalking horse bid for Innkeepers USA and in connection with the broader Innkeepers chapter 11 restructuring. Prior to Lazard, Mr. Preiss served as a law clerk to Judge Stephen F. Williams on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Mr. Preiss graduated at the top of his class from the University of Chicago Law School where he was also the Executive Topics and Comments Editor of The University of Chicago Law Review and the recipient of two fellowships for the study of law and economics. He holds a B.A. in political science with a minor in business administration from the University of California at Berkeley.
