Terrell Smith became of counsel to Kruse Landa Maycock & Ricks in July 2013. Since 2004, his practice has focused on real property financing, commercial transactions, mortgage banking and servicing, distressed asset acquisitions, nonperforming loan workouts, securities transactions and corporate governance and operations for local and national firms. Terrell co-founded Fairbanks Capital Corp., Salt Lake City, Utah (now known as Select Portfolio Servicing, Inc.), which grew to a company servicing $55 billion in residential mortgage loans with four servicing centers, in Salt Lake City, UT; Philadelphia, PA, Jacksonville, FL, and Austin, TX, by 2004. From its inception in 1989 until his departure in 2004, Terrell served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel and managed all legal aspects of the company’s operations, including acquisitions of whole loans, servicing rights and servicing platforms, and licensing and regulatory compliance matters. Select Portfolio Servicing is a nationally recognized special servicer of residential mortgage loans.
