Partner, German advocate (Rechtsanwalt), registered as a foreign lawyer with the Warsaw regional bar association. Fluent in German, English, Polish, Russian, and Spanish. Christian graduated from the law faculty at the University of Hamburg. He did postgraduate legal studies in St. Petersburg, Russia. His professional experience includes the position of a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, where he worked in the department for Central and Eastern Europe. From 1989 until 1994, Christian was a research fellow at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt at the chair for International, European and Public Law and at the Institute for Foreign and International Law. In 1994, a scholar at the Academy of International Law in the Hague. In 1995, he joined the law firm Boesebeck Droste in Frankfurt, and he moved to Boesebeck Droste’s Warsaw office in 1997. Between 2000 and 2004, Christian was the managing partner of the Warsaw office of Lovells; became a partner in GESSEL in October 2005. Specialises in legal services for foreign investors in Poland and in real estate law; his practice is focused on advising German-speaking clients operating in Poland and Polish companies involved in transactions in Germany and Austria. His expertise encompasses mergers and acquisitions and direct investment in various sectors of the economy such as metal processing, construction, automotive, food, pharmaceuticals, transport, mass media, banking and insurance. He also advises German banks and financial institutions granting finance to Polish borrowers or pursuing projects in Poland. At GESSEL, leads the German Desk and the real estate law department. In 2009, his leadership and talent in the real estate law and banking/finance law services provided to GESSEL’s German-speaking clients were cited by Legal 500. In 2018 and 2019 awarded in the prestigious Global Chambers ranking, in M&A / corporate law services (as Foreign Expert for Germany).
