Eduardo Abad is the partner in charge of the Tax Department of Garrigues, where he has pursued his professional career following a period at Arthur Andersen. He specializes in tax matters, especially in the banking, finance and insurance industries. He has also participated in numerous M&A transactions and is a recognized expert in accounting law and corporate law. His areas of expertise include the taxation of financial institutions and insurance companies, as well as all tax aspects relating to capital markets and financial products. He is the lawyer of choice for the main Spanish and foreign financial institutions operating in these markets. He also provides recurring advice on regulatory, tax and corporate matters in the context of the main M&A and internal restructuring transactions carried out by the above-mentioned institutions, as well as by private equity entities and those from the industrial sectors. He has been actively involved in analyzing and designing financial products and is an expert in transactions involving the issuance of debt and preference shares by national and international issuers, coordinating work with lawyers from other jurisdictions. He has also participated in some of the most high-profile State aid proceedings brought by the European Commission and in appeals filed before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
