David Jordan is a principal in the Washington, D.C., office of Fish & Richardson P.C., although he is frequently found in the firm’s San Diego office as well. David’s law practice emphasizes client counseling and software patent prosecution. In the computer software field, David and his team have significant experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications for inventions involving user interfaces and human-computer interaction, compilers, business intelligence, data analytics, operating systems, search engines, cloud computing, databases, XaaS, cognitive computing, artificial neural networks, query optimization and processing, and speech, image, and handwriting recognition. Outside of the computer software field, David also has significant hands-on experience with patent applications related to e-commerce, business process and financial modeling, advertising, avionics and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), health care management, supply chain traceability, quantified self devices, satellites, lasers, consumer electronics devices, control systems, and games and toys. Through a prosecution style that emphasizes customer service as well as face-to-face collaboration with patent examiners, David’s efforts have resulted in over 1,700 issued U.S. patents for his clients, including more than 500 software patents post-Alice. When not prosecuting software patents, David also represents disabled veterans, pro bono, in their appeals at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and manages prosecution of a substantial number of pro bono patent applications referred through the California Lawyers for the Arts and Federal Circuit Bar Association (FCBA). Before joining Fish & Richardson, Mr. Jordan received his commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy, and served overseas as an aircraft maintenance officer. As a law student, David was also a judicial extern for the Honorable James F. Stiven of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California in San Diego, California. David is also an elected member of the firm’s finance committee.
