José Julián Álvarez-Maldonado is a Shareholder and member of the Corporate Division at Fiddler, González & Rodríguez, P.S.C. Mr. Álvarez also chairs the Corporate Division and is a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of Fiddler. Mr. Álvarez concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, securities, tax, general corporate matters and government and legislative affairs. He is also President of FGR Corporate Services, Inc. a subsidiary of Fiddler. Mr. Álvarez participated in the drafting of the 1995 and 2009 Puerto Rico General Corporate Law. He has also been involved in the design of the excise tax prepayment system adopted by the Puerto Rico Department of Treasury in relation to air-freight carriers. Mr. Álvarez has actively participated in several bond issues for the government of Puerto Rico and its agencies and instrumentalities, as well as in the syndications of a number of limited or special partnerships in Puerto Rico. As part of his Merger and Acquisitions practice, Mr. Álvarez has worked in the sale and acquisition of soft drinks and bottling companies, theaters, major chain stores and local chain stores, as well as dairies, and petroleum products franchises and operations, among others.
