Alan Kartashkin is the Managing Partner of the firm’s Moscow office. His practice focuses on M&A, securities and corporate finance. Mr. Kartashkin is recommended as one of the leading lawyers for M&A, capital markets, private equity and aviation matters in Russia by Chambers and Best Lawyers. He is also currently listed by Expert Guides amongst Russia’s leading M&A, aviation and corporate governance practitioners. IFLR1000 (2021) recommends him for both Debt and Equity Capital Markets and for M&A. The Legal 500 EMEA (2021) which recommends him for Banking & Finance, Capital Markets, M&A, Energy & Natural Resources and TMT, describes him as “a partner with a strategic approach and helicopter view” and as “the best person to navigate a client through sensitive issues and communication with board members and regulators.” Previous editions of the guide note his “deep market knowledge” and his “deep understanding of Russia’s business environment and of the clients’ requirements.” He is also included in Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Aviation Lawyers. He has led some of the largest public M&A transactions in Russia, including the mergers of Uralkali with Silvinit and RTS with MICEX. Mr. Kartashkin has represented major Russian enterprises in public equity and debt offerings in the international capital markets, including premium listings on the London Stock Exchange, as well as in a diverse range of financing transactions. Since early 2014, he has been advising leading U.S., EU, Japanese, Chinese and Russian corporations and financial institutions on the application of and compliance with, the sanctions imposed by the U.S. and EU on a growing number of Russian entities as result of the crisis in Ukraine. Mr. Kartashkin joined the firm’s New York office in 1996 and moved to the Moscow office in 2001. Mr. Kartashkin received his J.D. from Cornell Law School in 1996, and a law degree with honours from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1993. He is a member of the New York State Bar and is admitted to practise law in Russia.
