Bio

David Griffis is one of Crain Caton & James’s most experienced counsel on corporate, tax, transactions, real estate, and international business transactions. Dave has over four decades of experience representing clients in a variety of industries, and in a wide range of domestic and international business transactions. He leads a team of experienced transactional attorneys who have completed numerous engagements throughout North America and Europe. His experience enables him to identify current and future issues related to a transaction, and address them within the transaction. When necessary, Dave assembles a team of colleagues to provide counseling in the areas of business structures, finance, real estate, civil litigation, environmental compliance, intellectual property, commercial contracts, bankruptcy, and employment law. This team approach is particularly valuable for businesses that don’t have an in-house legal department to address the possible range of legal issues. In those circumstances, Dave works closely with senior management as an outside general counsel. Having served as a board member for both private and publicly-traded companies, Dave understands the legal complexities and economic realities of doing business in the modern global economy. He has been active in structuring, negotiating, financing, and documenting a variety of corporate joint ventures and strategic alliances. Most recently Dave worked as outside general counsel for one of the world’s largest independent bulk liquid terminal companies. He has extensive experience in the midstream energy business, having participated in negotiating, financing, and documenting numerous terminal transactions in U.S., Mexico, and Europe.
