Richard Cowan is a specialist banking and finance lawyer who handles issues such as negotiating facility agreements, security documentation and intercreditor deeds. He acts for lenders, corporate borrowers and institutional investors in financing most aspects of corporate lending transactions. He advises on leveraged and structured finance (including MBOs, MBI's and IBO's), real estate investment and development finance as well as general corporate banking and refinancings. He also acts for clearing banks, alternative lenders and challenger banks, debt funds, institutional investors, private equity houses, corporates, and high net worth individuals. Richard has a strong background in his area of expertise and has acted for many of the largest corporates in the North West, as well as for growth businesses requiring advice and assistance throughout the region. He worked for an international law firm before joining us. The Legal 500 describes Richard as “very proactive and delivers a high level of serviceâ€. He is listed as an ‘Associate to watch’ for banking and finance in the 2018 edition of the Chambers Directory, which describes him as “experienced in acting for alternative lenders. He has particular expertise in leveraged finance, real estate finance and restructuring matters. He assists borrower and lender-side clients with mezzanine debt, refinancing and acquisitions among other mattersâ€. Richard joined us in 2019 and is based in our Manchester office.
