John Trani Bio

John is an Operating Partner with Stonepeak and support’s Stonepeak’s general portfolio operations. Previously, John spent nineteen years at General Electric (1978-1997) where he gained broad experience across multiple businesses. At the time of his departure from GE, John served as President & Chief Executive Officer of GE Medical Systems where he reported directly to Jack Welch, the Chief Executive Officer of GE. John was tasked with running GE’s Mobile Communication Division during the 1980s. In his two years running the division, John increased cash flow by $80mm. The Mobile Communications Division role represented the start of a consistent rise for John through the ranks of GE, culminating in his role as Chief Executive Officer of GE Medical Systems. John also served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Stanley Works from 1997 to 2003. Since leaving The Stanley Works, John has worked in various operating roles for private equity firms.
